Jon Scott |
Jon Scott was
born and raised in Providence. He graduated from Moses
Brown School, where
he was a four sport athlete and was involved in Close-Up
(a governmental exploration program that brings high school
students to Washington, D.C. each year). He went on to study
at the University of Rhode Island, where he sat on the Student
Senate, which he eventually chaired and served as the Student
Representative on a number of State Boards. At about the
same time he began his second adventure in the nation's capitol,
as a lobbyist for “Students Advocating Financial Aid”.
Jon took a break from politics – he raced sailboats
for five years and then took a job as a counselor for a Providence
based D.C.Y.F. contracted group home provider. His experience
there was eye-opening and further developed his commitment
to helping those who have fallen through the nation's safety
net. He worked with that organization for twelve years and
received a first hand education in both the successes and
failures of our social services programs. Jon currently lives
in Providence with his adopted son, Chris. In addition to
his other work he has coached football, lacrosse, wrestling,
and sailing for twenty years. He sits on a number of boards
including Furball Farms (a non-profit animal rescue organization)

States Congress in 2006 based upon a deeply held belief that
everyone in this country, regardless of their situation,
deserves a voice in our government. |
